Location / Directions

Washington Island, WI is most often described as "above the tension line", and with good reason.  This is the place to come when you want to "get away from it all" . . . . . the strip malls, city traffic, restaurant chains, competing with the Jones'.  Here you can swim, lazy with a book on the beach, bike ride, hike, walk, shop in the unique gift shops, and grab a bite to eat in the quaint restaurants.  You'll find many points of interest to fill your time and we're just a hop, skip and a jump away.  Here are the maps and directions from two of the most common starting points.

From Chicago, IL -- approximate travel time is 6 hours:
Take I-94 West, Edens Express Way, Continue onto I-43 to Green Bay, WI.
Merge onto WI-57 N / WI-54 via EXIT 185 toward STURGEON BAY / ALGOMA.  Continue on WI-57 to WI-42.  Continue on WI-42, which ends at the Washington Island Ferry (check ferry schedule).  Upon arriving on Washington Island we are approximately 4.5 miles from the Washington Island Ferry Line, across the road from the Red Barn Children's Park and a short walk to the Sand Dunes beach.

From Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN -- approximate travel time is 7.5 hours:
Take I-94 E via the ramp on the LEFT (crossing into WISCONSIN).  Merge onto WI-29 E via EXIT 52 toward WI-40 / COLFAX / GREEN BAYMerge onto US-51 S / WI-29 E toward GREEN BAY / STEVENS POINT.  Merge onto WI-29 E via EXIT 187 toward GREEN BAY.  Merge onto US-41 N toward MARINETTE.  Merge onto I-43 S via EXIT 171 toward MILWAUKEE.  Merge onto WI-57 N via EXIT 185 toward STURGEON BAY / ALGOMA.
